A vet with expert knowledge in cattle lameness is to lead a series of Farming Connect events designed to help Welsh farmers address foot health in their own herds.
An industry focus on lameness has led to improvements in the incidence of lameness in Welsh herds but Sara Pedersen says it remains one of the most significant welfare and productivity issues affecting herds in Wales.
“Good hoof health is an essential component of a productive herd,’’ says Ms Pedersen, a cow health and production specialist.
During events taking place in November she will share practical solutions for minimising lameness.
Ms Pedersen, of Farm Dynamics Ltd, Cowbridge, will also help farmers to identify the main cause of lameness in their herd and discuss the best treatment options for lame cows.
Events will be held as follows:
13 November 2018, St Mary's Golf Club, Pencoed, CF35 5EA (BEEF)
14 November 2018, Newcastle Emlyn RFC, Newcastle Emlyn, SA38 9AZ (DAIRY)
20 November 2018, Haverfordwest RFC, Haverfordwest, SA61 1LY (DAIRY)
All the events run from 19.30 – 21.30
