Deputy Minister for Farming and Food, Rebecca Evans took the opportunity of her visit to the dairy show in Carmarthen today to launch ‘Develop your Business’, the first phase of Farming Connect’s new programme of knowledge transfer and innovation.
The new programme will provide support to farm and forestry businesses in Wales ensuring that they have the opportunity to modernise, become more resilient and are better able to thrive in what is now a global market place.
Rebecca Evans said
“Our top performing farmers are already committed to lifelong learning, knowledge exchange and they are open to innovative new ideas and more efficient ways of working. I want all farmers in Wales to follow their lead.
“While the number of farmers who signed up to Farming Connect in the past is encouraging - well over 115,000 beneficiaries since 2007 - we need many more businesses to access Farming Connect services in future to ensure that the positive vision I share with many in the industry is realised.
“I want farmers, all farmers, to appreciate that personal and business development of the kind that’s available through Farming Connect when used wisely represents a significant investment in their business.
“My vision is to see modern, professional and profitable farm businesses within a strong and self-confident industry. An industry that is able to punch above its weight across Europe and beyond.
“Farming Connect will help to deliver the necessary support to achieve this, but only if farmers and foresters join in and engage fully with what the new programme has to offer.”
Farming Connect eligibility has been significantly broadened under the new programme. All those registered under the previous programme will need to re-register.
